The Nike Fingertrap Max NRG is a very similar shoe with some differences, most notably, a nice and big 180 Air Max unit in the heel. The forefoot remains fairly flexible, but the whole outsole is different. Rubber takes up most of the outsole and these feature a very aggressive pattern. The same pattern is featured on the outer edge of the Free 5.0’s, but the 5.0’s have a foam outsole underfoot. Most of the NFL referees wear these. Inspired by the toy finger traps everyone had as a kid, the upper is made from overlapping bands that wrap around the foot to secure it for a comfortable and stable feel. The bands adjust during movements and tighten for support while working out but remains highly flexible. Nike incorporated flex grooves in the forefront for increased flexibility and traction during intense routines as well as a mesh inner sock for superior breathability. Finally, the Fingertrap Max NRG features a air max unit in the heel for maximum comfort, and a Phylon midsole for cushioning.
